And I’m back from the FSF meeting at M.I.T. in Cambridge. The trip went well, I enjoyed myself, and will have more to say later.
One of the highlights was meeting Richard Stallman in person. I think he is a great man, and history will recognize him as a hugely important and influential person. No matter that he can be difficult and off-putting in various ways. It was an honor to shake his hand and thank him for what he’s done and is doing for software freedom.
But time is short and I’ll work on posting later when I can. In the meantime, you might enjoy this picture of Boston over the Charles River, taken from the Longfellow Bridge to Cambridge.

Long Canyon Trail in Sedona, Arizona.
I enjoyed this trail, but we didn’t go as far down it as we might have liked. It’s one of those “out-and-back” kinds of trails, so with every step you take, you’re thinking about how you’ll have to retrace it later. Having already done Doe Mountain earlier in the morning, we decided to turn back after a couple of miles (I hazily recall), for a four mile hike. I much prefer a loop when hiking. It seems easier to manage a longer hike that way, in order to complete the loop.

Lunch today at The Happy Gnome and then a walk across the parking lot to the St. Paul Curling Club for a couple of hours of curling. The Happy Gnome is a nice little restaurant and bar (although I apologize for their web site which seems to be all Flash). Went back afterwards and ordered a “Surly Bender,” which is brewed right here in Brooklyn Park, but they were out of that so I settled for a Flat Earth Cygnus X-1 Porter.
The Curling Club was really cool. I had no idea.
I’ve never played before. This was a team event for my work and none of us knew what we were doing, but we had a great time. We do these events about once a month, and …
