Friday Free Wallpaper Post: Patio

My patio. It was wet. I thought it would make a good desktop background.

This image is free and I’m releasing it in to the public domain. I took a 2560 x 1024 pixel slice out of it to use as dual monitor wallpaper, and of course you’re free to resize it to 1600 x 1200, 1280 x 1024, 1024 x 768, or etc x etc.

(An advantage of dual monitors I’ve found in GNU/Linux is that you can have a wallpaper that stretches across two displays. In Windows–by default at least, and no easy way to configure otherwise–I was only able to have an image repeated on both displays.)

  1. I’m still enjoying your tropical beach wallpaper.

  2. What a great shot! Very cool.

  3. Thanks, Crosbie — that’s good to hear.

Stacy: Really? I thought I was just being weird. :-)

  4. To stretch a wide picture across 2 displays in Windows XP:

    1. Make sure the displays are side by side in Display Properties | Settings.
    2. In the Desktop tab, select the picture you want to display.
    3. Select Tile in the Position drop-down box.
    4. Click OK.

  5. Thanks, Ricky — I eventually picked up on that tip from Raymond Chen — sometimes you have to rearrange the photo to get it to tile right across monitors, depending on how you have things arranged.

But the important thing is it is possible and it’s nice to know. (I never thought to update this post with that info, but now we’re covered. Thanks again!) :-)

And, this is of course just for the short term where we haven’t made the move yet on our personal machines, or are temporarily succumbing to Windows for the sake of our jobs. ;-)
